HOW TO USE IMAGES FROM THE NET IN A CLIL LESSON

Hello everybody 😊
Today I would like to dedicate my post to the use of images from the net in our classes.
Nowadays we can use a lot of pictures and images  from the Internet as a resource in our lessons due to the following reasons:

πŸ‘‰Pictures are engaging for children.
πŸ‘‰Students can get a better comprehension of the different concepts.
πŸ‘‰The learning process is in a real meaning, because even if students can not see some phenomenon, imagenes can provide them a 'proximity' to that phenomenon, concept or process.

It is wonderful that we can have so many images at our disposal with the objective of using them in the lessons. However... do we use them correctly?
In some cases, teachers get images from the net for our classes, but we do not take into account a very important aspect: the licence of the picture. Every picture in the net can have a licence, so we have to be aware of the different licences that exist in order to use the correct images in our explanations and activities.

Next you have an example of how to cite and attribute images, having the consideration that there are different types of Creative Commons licences and also a public domain:

This image is from Pixabay, a great Image database, where you can find lots of pictures and know if they have CC0 (public domain) or another licence.

Now that you have seen how to attribute an image, I will explain how I would use this image with my students in our lessons. I would use it in English or Social Science subject, with 3rd graders, in order to explain some natural phenomena. With this image I would make some questions such as:
↣ Where has been taken this picture? Who has taken it?
↣ What are these white things?
↣ How can it be produced?
↣ What is happening here and how can it affect to the countries and cities?
With this picture children can guess that something is happening in the atmosphere. We will learn the word hurricane. Next, I would show this other image:

With this picture pupils can see the consequences of an hurricane in the place we live and think about if there are solutions to this kind of natural phenomenon.

Here we have another examples of pictures that we can use with the objective of teaching another atmospheric phenomena:

I hope this post can be useful and you think about this aspect when you use images in your classes. It will contribute to a well done work!
Have a good one!
